On June 20th, at the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the Sun moved into the zodiac sign of Cancer. Today, on June 29th, 2022, the moon has joined the sun and gifts us with the energy of a new moon in Cancer.
Having my natal moon sign in Cancer, which is actually ruled by the Moon, I feel very much impacted by moon energy, especially in my emotional life.
At this new moon I felt inspired to create an intuitive mixed-media artwork, develop a tarot/oracle card spread and come up with an affirmation for Cancer season.
In astrology, Cancer is the cardinal sign of the Water trigon, which is made up of Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio. Its ruling planet is the Moon and it is associated with the element of water.
Cancer represents maternal energies of being nurturing, sensitive, compassionate, self-protective, security-seeking and caring. Cancerians are said to be highly intuitive with a lot of emotional depth and highly sensitive to their environment. Thus, they love to create cozy, safe spaces that serve as their personal sanctuaries.
With my own moon sign in Cancer I can attest to being very influenced by the moods and feelings of those around me, and I have often felt affected by whatever environment I found myself in. I have learnt to establish healthy boundaries and to take responsibility for my sensitivity and my emotional ebbs and flows.
„It’s a time to pause and wait for the energy planted in the Spring to reach full bloom. If the Spring represents action, the Summer represents patience to trust that, with Cancerian nurturing, the seeds you planted during April and May’s eclipses will grow.
At the beautiful New Moon in Cancer on June 28/29th when the Sun is aligned with both the Galactic Centre – our Homing Signal – and Jupiter in Aries, ritual is everything when you are working to amplify and manifest the wave of incoming Creator energy.
It doesn’t need to be dramatic, just mindful moments of acknowledgment and attention:
• cleanse your space – the ritual of purification
• light a candle – the ritual of sacred fire
• observe and journal your emotions – the ritual of self-discovery
• spend time in nature and in water – the ritual of embodiment
• meditate in the Sun – the ritual of grounding“

I created this 4-card spread especially for the magic of the new moon in Cancer energy and I invite you to use if for a little new moon ceremony you can create for yourself. Feel free to to create a sacred space with some flowers, incense, lighting a candle, meditating with a crystal (moon stone, selenite), and having a bath with nurturing essential oils like lavender or rose petals.
Take your favorite tarot or oracle deck – or like I did use four different decks and pull one card from each deck to answer the questions – shuffle the cards, concentrating on each question. Draw a card to answer each question and look at the images first (not at the title or keywords). What does the card have to tell you with colors and symbols to answer your question? What are your intuitive insights? Do this with each card and finally read all 4 cards together as a story.
What is your affirmation? It can come from card #4 or from the entire reading as a whole.
My reading filled me with awe and delight and spoke directly to my soul. Without looking up the meanings in the guidebooks I “received” intuitive knowings and messages from the Cancer new moon through the beautiful images on the cards.
The “Whale Blessings”, “Intuition” and “Child” card correspond divinely with the element of water and the symbolism associated with the sign of Cancer.

The child also appears in my intuitive artwork and reflects the “Inspiration”, the feelings of healing, hope and divine protection I feel so strongly at this time.
